Right before I left town for the holiday, I had the pleasure of shooting Shulie’s Bat Mitzvah. I got to shoot several of these events in 2010, and I always like seeing familiar faces. Since most of the families I work with are from the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, and I know the community pretty well.

Shulie’s event started at the synagogue. Since it was cold and dark outside, we shot some portraits indoors. Then, I shot a few pictures of her rehearsal. A couple nights later, we met up at the amazing Catalyst Ranch for a party that any teen girl would die for. I’ve never shot at the Catalyst Ranch, and I was so excited to see how fun and colorful the venue was. It was a great night, and this is a beautiful family.

Here are some sneak peeks!

Proud parents!

And grandparents…

As I mentioned, Catalyst Ranch was a great venue. There were so many photo opportunities!

Everyone loved the photobooth. These are ALWAYS a hit at events!

All of Shulie’s cousins:

Most importantly, Shulie had a blast! Right before the party started, she told me, “I’m already sad that it’s almost over!”

Two years ago, I shot Nikki & Dan’s wedding. Last weekend, I shot portraits of their newest family member: Hailey. One of the best parts of my job is watching families grow. It’s so exciting! And I’ll be shooting this little one again in six months!

Baby Hailey was such a good sport. Wee ones can be tricky to shoot. As anyone who has shot a baby session knows, you just have to let them determine what happens. You can’t force them to smile or look at the camera or sit perfectly still. You can just follow them with the camera and hope something cute happens. Well, I think we had plenty of cuteness. Here’s some sneak peeks to prove it.

It’s pretty rare that a 6 month old will stay cheerful for a full session, but Hailey was smiley for almost the entire time!

Little Miss Ballerina just chilling.

December 10, 2010   |   Clients, personal, Photographers

Before I ever started shooting weddings, I just liked to take pictures. It was really that simple. As some of you know, I’m also a poet. To me, poetry and photography both ask me to notice the little things; they both force me to have a different kind of awareness.

And as much as I love photographing people and events, I also still really love to wander around with my camera. I do this in Chicago. I do this when we travel. I do this as much as I can.

I love sharing some of these photos and adventures on my blog. Last year, I did a lot of that. And, much to my surprise, I got a few emails from people saying, “Danielle–We love this one photograph you just posted. Could we purchase that? It’d go perfectly in our living room.”

So, now the answer is YES! I’ve created an online gallery of fine art images that you can purchase as prints or on canvas. Have you been needing a grouping of black and white images for the hallway? Take a look. Need something to hang in that blank space above the couch? Check the gallery out. Need a holiday gift for someone that has everything? You get the idea.

I’m happy to share these images with you, and I’ll be adding to the gallery regularly. (It’s an excuse for me to do more wandering, anyway.)

To access the gallery, click on the “client galleries” link on this site, and then click on “fine art.” You’ll be taken here. I hope you love looking as much at them as much as I loved taking them. Here are a few images you’ll see represented in the gallery.

How lucky are we to live in Chicago? Seriously.

We have a LARGE canvas of this print in our bedroom. Nothing like waking up every single day and looking at the ocean.

Paris. Need I say more? There are several images from my Parisian adventures (because, really, there’s a photo at every turn).
