July 15, 2012   |   wedding

Stacen and Joe were married yesterday at Danada House in Wheaton, IL. Though the weather forecast threatened thunderstorms, we ended up with nothing but beautiful sunshine for their wedding at this lovely venue.

The Danada House made for the perfect backdrop for photos. There was a ton of light inside the space, charming rooms for all the prep. shots, and endless grounds, which we happened upon during golden hour.

Stacen and Joe leave for Hawaii tomorrow and, since “photos are [Stacen’s] thing,” I wanted to send them off on their honeymoon with these sneak peeks. Enjoy your time in paradise, guys! And thanks for being such a great couple.

This pearled purse is a family heirloom.

Stacen made for a radiant bride, and her dress was STUNNING!

The setting for the early evening ceremony.

LOVE this shot.

The light was divine!

A sweet moment between Stacen and her sister, the Maid of Honor, after her speech.

And one last moment between the new couple, captured at the very end of the evening.

July 9, 2012   |   engagement

Yesterday, the heatwave broke just in time for Erica and Jeff’s engagement session. It was a gorgeous night for a photoshoot.

Erica worked as an event planner for a long time. I actually met her when I shot a wedding that she planned a couple of years ago. So, when she hired me to shoot her wedding, I knew she’d be great to work with. She thinks about all of the details!

For their engagement session, Erica and Jeff knew they wanted two looks: a little bit of the city and a little bit of the country. So, we started at Welles Park. Jeff grew up in that neighborhood, and he played at that park as a kid. Erica wanted to surprise him by shooting some photos there. I was happy to oblige! We wandered around Montrose for a bit, grabbed a couple of beers, and then headed to Montrose Harbor for the “country” setting we were after.

This session couldn’t have been more perfect. We had absolutely glorious light everywhere we went, and these two were so easy-going. Can’t wait for their big day! In the meantime, enjoy these sneak peeks.

Admittedly, I hate gazebos. So, when Erica said they wanted to start at a gazebo, I had a mini panic attack. But, I guess I should just trust my clients. This was an INCREDIBLE gazebo!

Love this ring shot.

Next, we played in the weeds!

I think that, if I could only choose one photo setting for the rest of my career, it’d be a sun-splashed field of grass.

And maybe one with a big tree.
