April 21, 2014   |   engagement, tips

This past week, I shot my first engagement session of 2014, and what an engagement session it was! Lindsey and Dan wanted to shoot downtown, and they were all up for wandering around to find interesting nooks and crannies. Those are my favorite shoots.

We also made sure to shoot an hour before sunset and, as you can see, we had AHHHHHHMAZING light. Gosh golly–I’m glad that the sun has come back to us!

All of these factors–plus my creative energy that had been pent up all winter and was waiting to break free–made for the perfect first shoot. What a perfect way–and a perfect couple–to kick of my 2014 season!

This is the first series we shot, and all of these were taken within the first couple of minute. But I just loved them too much to pick just one!

How cute are these two?

Loved this nook!

And this one! I can’t get over the light in this shot. PERFECTION.

And we ended with a picture perfect view of the city–and some ridiculous sweetness.

On Friday, I met up with the lovely ladies of the Chicago Q Ensemble–a string trio. I’ve shot with them before, and I was so happy when they wanted me to snap some promotional photos for them once again.

Because they wanted something urban, we decided to meet in Fulton Market. It was cold and windy, but they toughed it out.

If you are looking for musicians for your next event, definitely check Chicago Q Ensemble out! As these photos attest, not only are they extremely gifted artists, but they are also an extremely fun–and silly–group of gals.

April 13, 2014   |   children, family

I’ve been shooting photos of little Caroline since she was a newborn. So, I was very happy to visit the family for Caroline’s 5 (1/2) year old photos!

It’s so funny to watch how the reaction to the camera changes with age. This year, Caroline was part ham and part shy little snail. As usual, we let her determine the course of the shoot, always asking where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do. So, sometimes that meant climbing the stairs.

And sometimes that meant showing me where she’d recently loss a tooth. 🙂

Or just being adorable.

Or riding bikes with Dad.

Or–with the promise of a baseball game later in the afternoon–taking one last family photo. Regardless, I hope all of these photos perfectly depict what it means to be 5 (1/2!) year old Caroline.
