February 3, 2017   |   baby, children, engagement, family, wedding

Since it is already FEBRUARY (what?! how?!), I thought I should probably get around to rounding up some of my favorite images from the past year.

It’s hard to believe that my business is nearly 12 years old, now. Lots of things have changed in those 12 years. At one point, I was shooting 20-30 weddings a year. Now, I shoot fewer than 10. It was a conscious decision to cut back–to allow photography to be the creative muscle that I stretch because I want to, not because I need to. To be something that I enjoy. To work with clients that inspire me. I haven’t regretted that decision. It means that I do work that is meaningful to me.

This year was evidence of all of that. I worked with many new clients, but I also continued work with couples and families that I’ve known now, in some cases, for years. I pushed myself creatively, and I worked, as always, to give my clients photos that they love.

As I look forward to another year of capturing moments, here are some from last year that are particularly special.

Before the holiday, I met up with Jenn and Bryan–a couple who I’ve shot with a few times before–for a snowy maternity session. One of my favorite things about clients is when they are willing to just go for it. And, despite the fact that it was FREEZING cold and actively snowing, Jenn wanted to make a go of her maternity photos.
Snowy shoots can be challenging–wet, messy, and COLD. But when a couple is willing to take a chance, they can also be MAGICAL. I think these sneak peeks prove just that.

Sarah and Jeff, who are getting married at a vineyard in Northern California next year, are celebrating their engagement with photos in one of the cities that serves as home base for their long distance love.

Though Sarah spends most of her time in LA for graduate school, Jeff lives in the West Loop, and it’s a neighborhood that’s close to their hearts. So, we started their engagement session at the French Market, wandered around some colorful spots in the West Loop, and ended over by Kinzie St bridge.

They came to the shoot prepared, having already scouted out a ton of colorful walls and street art. That allowed us to work pretty quickly, hitting up a lot of spots.

Here are some photos from our time together!

We had some great light when shooting at some of Sarah and Jeff’s favorite haunts.
