Megan contacted me a couple of months ago, saying she wanted to shoot some family photos before bay #4 arrived. We planned on shooting in the spring, but then spring never really came. (Thanks, Chicago.)

This past weekend, we finally scheduled our session, pushing back as far as we could before we risked the baby coming before we had a chance to take any photos! Then, of course, the day we planned to shoot ended up being 50 degrees and rainy. Still, we decided to forge ahead, knowing that rescheduling would likely mean that this family of 5 would become a family of 6.

Still, despite the rain, the cold, and three kids under 6, we managed to have a great shoot! Photographing a gaggle of little kids isn’t always easy, but these three were in such good spirits the entire time. So, we couldn’t really blame them for their wiggles; we just chased them around!

Here are some photos from my time with this soon-to-be-growing family:

Jack’s face cracks me up, here. He’s clearly thinking, “Why are you making me get so close to my sisters?!”

Of course, we had to get some shots of the bump, too!

Kiddos 1, 2…

3, and 4!

If you search for “Ashley and Sunil” on my website, you’ll find innumerable posts, dating back to when I first shot their engagement photos in 2011. Then, their wedding in 2012. And their maternity photos in 2015. Followed by photos right after the birth of their first son, Veen, and then their second, Dev, just last year.

Somewhere along the way, they became some of our closet friends, and as our families have followed the same baby-making trajectory, we have become even closer.

So, I was so happy to shoot some photos to commemorate Dev’s first birthday (which also happens to be the same as mine).

Happy birthday, little Dev! We are so excited to celebrate you–and your awesome fam.

These two make the happiest, cutest kids. And I’m not just saying that because I love them. I mean, LOOK at Dev cheesing!

Photos with two toddlers is no easy feat, but I think they nailed it.

Dev is totally thinking, “Oh yeah, I’m about the smash the heck out of this cake.”

Or just smash my face into it…

I photographed Jason, Jaelon, and their dads this past weekend just a few blocks from my house, as we all live in the same neighborhood. Good gosh, I am glad I got to meet this family.

From the second I met them at their home, the boys were just so sweet and endearing. They are little charmers–full of personality–and not even a little shy. They are also uber polite. After the session–which we shot in 33 degree weather–they said I couldn’t go home, “But you have to come have some hot cocoa!”

As we were shooting around the grounds of Senn High School, which makes a beautiful backdrop for a family shoot, people were literally staring at this adorable quartet, likely assuming–like me–that they walked straight out of the pages of a J Crew catalog. One lady even stopped us, excitedly asking “Is this a real family?! How are you all so beautiful?!”

Sometimes, shooting with young boys can be a challenge, as they are so energetic and often not very receptive about the idea of family pictures. We channeled all that energy into these images, though, and I’m so happy with how they turned out.

Here are some sneak peeks from this catalog crew!

J and J nailed their “swag face,” but they couldn’t stay serious for very long.

They jumped at the opportunity to torture their dads–throwing leaves and tackling them as much as possible!
