Guest Room Re-do

Lately, we’ve been bitten by the re-decorating bug. I’ve been spending entirely too much time on decorating blogs (Apartment Therapy, This Young House, Making It Lovely, etc.) just drooling over beautiful things.

If you’ve stayed with us before, and we get A LOT of guests, you know the shame that has been our guest bedroom. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment that is way too small for all of our stuff and the guest room is a default bedroom, office and anything else. Instead of a bed, we’ve had an old college-era futon that has become a running joke. We send our lovely guests to the back of the house and expect them to fend for themselves on the thing we call a mattress.

Since we bought our new bed, we decided to sell the futon and turn that room into something resembling a real bedroom. I went Craigslist crazy and sold a lot of the furniture we had. Without buying any new furniture–aside from a side table/filing cabinet that was on clearance from West Elm–we have managed to completely redecorate. All we did was pain our bookshelves blue, recycle some old bedding and relocate a chair from the living room. Want to see the before and after shots? Mind you, all of the photos were taken within 2 hours of each other this afternoon. And please don’t judge me for the “before” photographs. These are an improvement, anyway, since the futon has been gone for a couple of weeks and the shelves are already painted.

We still need some accessories: a couple vases of red roses to make the space a little more feminine, some wall art, etc. And Sona obviously has an obsession with Audrey Hepburn. She has taken over.
